Hello to all of our friends and affiliates,
It’s been quite a journey for the Caribbean since our last blog post in August. As many of you know, the hurricane season was unparalleled in the Caribbean this year and to this day we are still in the process of relief and recovery. While we had planned to be out coaching the youth again this past winter, we put that on a temporary hold in order to effectively help coordinate the mission of bringing temporary roofs to the homes in need after the hurricanes. All in all our group put up over 200 roofs in St. Thomas, and then 40 roofs in Puerto Rico and we are happy to say it’s now sailing time again.
As many of you saw from the blog posts, we had a successful string of Bow Sailing camps last summer. While we were considering last summer’s tour as a “pilot program” to gauge the interest in a sailing and wellness non-profit, we are now well aware that the interest is there. We had the chance to work with many great partners and sponsors throughout the summer and all in all the feedback was very positive. Even more importantly, the memories of smiles and laughter are still clear in our minds. Hence, we are currently working out the plans for another tour this summer.
While the exact scheduling is still being worked out, we expect to work with many of the same islands and groups from last year, as well as a few new locations such as Anguilla and Bequia. Again, we will have a core group of sailing and mindfulness instructors, as well as the best photographers to join us. Additionally, we are teamed up with the VI Sports Trust so we can receive tax deductible donations to support the program.
Our first training of the season will be starting this Saturday with the Marine Vocational Program and Boys and Girls Club of St. Thomas. Expect to see more updates to come soon!
All the best,
Tyler and the Bow Sailing Team
